Women of Influence has been a long time supporter of a local organisation that exists to support local youth. RADFLY is a not-for-profit organisation developed by Gold Coast volunteers who are committed to addressing poverty and improving the lives of underprivileged young people on the Gold Coast by supporting existing youth organisations. RADFLY’s vision is to provide ongoing support for disadvantaged youth on the Gold Coast. This is done by supporting two main charities:
Much planning has been going on at RADFLY headquarters, there are two events planned for the remainder of 2016. As always YHES House and Ohana are in need of funding to support the great work they do with young people in need on the Gold Coast. The big news is that Ohana for Youth have purchased a block of land at Robina (near railway station and Bond Institute (old Titans building)), to build a new home for Arcadia College (alternate schooling for grade 9-12). There is much to do as the land cost $2.7M!
First up, RADFLY is planning a movie night on the 1st August at The Arts Centre – RADFLY Movie Details
Secondly, RADFLY is hosting a Youth Art Prize Event at Miami Marketta on 6th October 2016 from 6-9pm. Partnering with The GC Art Gallery to offer the art prize winner, aged 18-25, an internship with the gallery plus $1500 prize money. There will also be a people’s choice award of $500.
RADFLY will organise a workshop for finalists to provide education on promotion, grant application writing, and general self-promotion. We are delighted that Q Minister Shannon Fentiman, Minister for Youth, and many other portfolios will be present on the night to award the prizes.
